About Lancaster Lightning
The Lancaster Lightning is a minor league football team located in Lancaster, PA. The team was founded in 2003 and has been a part of the North American Football League. In 2010, the Lightening proudly made it into the NAFL playoffs for the first time and are looking to build on that success in 2011.
After 8 seasons in the NAFL, the Lightning decided it was time for a change and is now a proud member of the Gridiron Developmental Football League. Lancaster has been on the edge of innovation for minor league football since its inception. One of the leaders in attendance nationally for several years, Lancaster has been a presence in the community and a positive outlet for family entertainment.
The Lightning's goal is to grow both on and off the field. We are striving to be an important and influential part of the Lancaster community. We hope to help Lancaster in a postiive way by partnering with local businesses, organizations, and the local economy as a whole.
The Lightning continued to grow and develop in an area considered the toughest area in the country for competitive minor league football through the mid 2000's. The landscape has drastically changed in recent years and Lancaster is looking to become part of a competitive, national league that is interested in growing this football experience.
Football is an important part of mainstream America and there is a niche for minor league football to compete for the corporate dollar with minor league hockey and baseball.
The Lightning is excited to open a new chapter and eager for the challenge of competing nationally. The 2011 season will bring new opponents and a fresh start for Lancaster, who will continue their push for another playoff run in their new home, the GDFL.
